ATSARA: THE LEGEND THAT UNFOLDS AND KEEPS ON GIVING MORE

Jimmy Wangyel Tshering
This is not a blog. It’s a tribute to an
OG, where y’all can rest assured and read while I signify the significance of a
great personnel, not at all oblivious from the fact that we truly admire his
work ethics and contribution to the music industry in Bhutan. It’s a hymn written down to sing praises of a
talented artist of Drubi Hip hop. It’s a reminder to the Bhutanese music
audience to learn and respect the grind of artists and appreciate their art
when you can.

PC@ Jimmy Wangyel Tshering
Tomorrow is never promised because we are all mortals but the unique artistry is what takes the cake and separates one from the rest. From the numerous rap and melody numbers to producing and singing certain songs in the Bhutanese Film Industry, we welcome the legend of Jimmy Wangyel Tshering aka Atsara to this content write-up of Amix Hip Hop Bhutan.
Let us dive into the Q&A session.
CONTENTMENT OR SATISFACTION
We all live to be happy, to be satisfied,
to give back to Mother earth and leave a lasting footprint for decades. The team of Amix Hip Hop Bhutan asked Mr. Jimmy regarding the passage of time he considers himself to be most contented.
He stated that there are varied sorts of artists in Bhutan. Some of them have
raw interest in music, and when he sees their eyes twinkle as they rap or sing,
it warms his heart but he observes that the same artists do not have talent.
This is where he comes in. Mr. Jimmy loves to give opportunities to these individuals
and hone their passion and provide them with the requisites to convert passion into
talent with a bit of inspiration, a pinch of motivation and a whole lot of patience.
REFLECTION
The main purpose of the question associated
with this section was to comprehend and understand Mr. Jimmy as a person. We, at
Amix HipHop Bhutan clearly recognize his contribution and appreciate his
musical prowess. What we wanted to understand was his personal side. Asked if
he would do anything differently when he looks back at his life and reflect, Mr. Jimmy underlined the value of education by stating that he skipped his classes
a lot back at college. However, he believes that it was his sole decision not
to continue and he has taken responsibility for that choice he took in his
yesteryears.
ATSARA ENTERTAINMENT

Atsara Entertainment is a household name in Bhutan. Every citizen with an access to internet and who loves music would have listened to at least one song produced and released by Mr. Jimmy’s Atsara Entertainment. Mr. Jimmy told us that Atsara Entertainment was first initiated as an audio-visual production house in the year, 2012. Fast forward to the year 2022, as we conduct this short interview, Mr. Jimmy gives us a view point regarding his aspirations for the next five years. “In the next five years, if possible, I dream to add not just recording studios, but also open up free dance spaces all over the city, in short, I aspire to reach all kinds of artist and provide for them with little to no change, so, on top!”

MA BAY SA WAI
A couple of months ago, Atsara
Entertainment released a song by the title, Ma Bay Sa Wai. Mr Jimmy himself was
the artist. If y’all haven’t yet checked it out, you should because a member of
our Amix HipHop team opined that this was a super bold rap composition where
Mr. Jimmy seemed to attack various people with his super swift flurry of words
from the beginning to the end; like the sharp points of a double-edged sword.
We then asked him to provide more insight on the song. Mr. Jimmy said, “Ma bay
Sa Wai came to me in the form of artists, not lyrics. For so long, I have been
getting complaints and stories of how my artists didn’t get their money’s worth
in other studios.. This song disses directly to the so-called pioneers who take
what they can and give nothing back. I’d do anything to expose things like
this.”
ROLE MODEL
Talk about a budding artist, an enthusiast and a successful artist in a cycle, there’s no denying the fact that everyone ought to have a role model. Mr Jimmy believes he doesn’t need to think twice regarding who his role model is. When he was young, he used to aspire to become like his dad. At this current juncture, he tells us that he is definitely like him.
“Everything I do now has been a simple push from my father’s side. He was the first person to play the guitar in front of me and perform like how I try to inculcate the Atsara humor. My vocabulary, my attitude and my outlook matches my dad’s-a hundred percent.”

Guess we now know that the talent runs in the genes, eh?
He also tells us that his dad has always inspired him to never give up and keep moving forward. The mysterious yet an enthrallingly witty sense of humor he possesses has been passed down through his dad, he adds.
ATSARA MEGA CYPHER
The on-going Atsara Mega Cypher is definitely a history in the making with budding artists from several dzongkhags being presented with the opportunity to rap their hearts out with the established rappers who are legends in their own respective ways. When we asked him regarding the Cypher, this is how he enlightened us.
“Most of the artists that enjoy fandom and popularity are from the capital which is not necessarily a bad thing. However, with the Mega Cypher coming into a full-fledged life, the artists from all dzongkhags can equally be on the spotlight. These artists need to be nurtured with the same level of facilities in the local areas. It was my idea to bring them all here and get their voices out in the capital and other dzongkhags. The only imbalance I witness is the unequal distribution of facilities. The talents, on the other hand, are exquisitely unique-be it from Thimphu or Mongar.”

THE ACCIDENT
Those of us who know Mr. Jimmy; we’ve all
seen him riding his two-wheeler and known him to have an unparalleled zeal on riding.
However, about two months ago, he met with an accident, which could have been
worse but Buddha is great and he probably has greater plans in store for Mr. Jimmy. It was quite a challenge for us to pose a question regarding this
accident because of it’s sensitivity but Mr. Jimmy, as outspoken as he is,
answered us rather exceptionally with a great build-up of inspiration. Here is
the question and his answer. Get inspired!
Question: Recently, you met with an
accident. Now that you have emerged victorious after facing your adversities,
what sorta emotions have you been experiencing? Any unfulfilled dream you’d
like to conquer now?
Answer: I’ve been on a more religious path lately, especially after the accident. I’m doing that because I still don’t remember crashing. I was sober, it was broad daylight and you could fit three cars on the road where I crashed. My head went blank and dark, around 10 to 15 minutes prior to the crash. The lama I visited told me that I had been pushed and it wasn’t me who was riding during that time.
Eventually I will get back to being the
same me before the crash and I shall do what I can to help promote my beloved
singers, rappers, beat boxers, actors, dancers, artists and myself.”
What blows our minds is that Mr Jimmy still
has a vision to promote and assist in building the music industry in Bhutan to
even greater heights. Talk about commitment and like we mentioned earlier- an incredible
work ethic.
PARTING WORDS OF WISDOM
As a parting question, we wanted to know what Mr Jimmy wanted to tell to the present and future batch of artists.
“My
only advice is, consider each other as one. I’m not the one to say-don’t do
drugs, don’t party etc…We have no other thing to do otherwise. Jobs are hard to
get, public relations are run by and get ruined with corruption, rich get
richer and poor stays poor. Follow your intuition and build yourselves. Look
outside the country for rivals, not within ourselves.”
WRITER'S NOTE
This would be our conclusive statement. I
remember the time Amix HipHop Bhutan’s founder told me. Hey, I heard about the
Atsara Mega Cypher. I replied, “Yes! He is recording our cypher portion for
free. Moreover, he has given his word that each artist has the liberty to
record another song in his studio too.” The founder then told me, “That’s very
generous of him. Hey buddy, we’ve got to write something on him cause he
deserves all plaudits. His contribution has been massive, right?” I replied,
“For sure, my brother. He’s a legend.”
And that is how,
this write-up on the ever-generous Acho Jimmy Wangyel Tshering aka Atsara was
born.
