His name is Asheek Powdyel (a.k.a FLO_A) and he is 24 years old. A recent graduate from RTC, he is one of the members of Bhutanese rap crew “Black squad” which was formed in 2019. He started rapping since 2018 and mostly prefers to rap in Lhotshamkha as he feels more comfortable speaking the language.

He got really inspired by the late Nepalese rapper Yama Buddha when he released his songs named “Saathi” and “Aama”. He likes his taste of music as he used to write a lot on real life situations and social issues which were very relatable to our own lives. He also likes MC Flo and Uniq Poet. Apart from music he likes to play football.

Asheek prefers to write mostly about life and social issues as well but he likes to add different flavors to his music by writing on different themes. He says that the challenges and struggles we face in life really inspire him to write about it and most of his songs are written based on topics related to it.

He released his first song named “Mann ko kura” (Words from the heart) in 2018 which is about the struggles that drug addicts go through in life and he wrote it based on other people’s stories.

Since then he has released around 15 songs of his own which includes singles and in collaboration with other artists. He has featured in two music videos.

One in the cypher which was released last year and another one in his song named “Tito Sattay” (Bitter Truth) which was released in February this year. Tito Sattay talks about how artists especially rappers are viewed by the society in general.

Asheek sees a lot of upcoming rappers who are rapping in Lhotshamkha and he feels really happy to be a part of it. Although he has released a lot of songs, he still feels that he has a long way to go and says every day is a learning process.

He says that he does not have big dreams as such but he really hopes that his music reaches out to those who are struggling with life and says it would mean a lot to him if it could have an impact on them in some ways.

He added that Hip-hop in Bhutan is really growing fast and there are rappers in almost all parts of the country. He hopes that Hip-hop in Bhutan gets as much support and love as it gets for other musical genres.

He has opened a personal YouTube channel and he will be uploading his songs there from now on. His new upcoming song named “Aestai ho para” will be released this month.

He, shares I thank you all for the love and support I have been receiving.
